Lodi Man Accused Of Stabbing Dodgers Fan After Giants Game
LODI (CBS13) — A 21-year-old Lodi man is accused of stabbing a Los Angeles Dodgers fan to death after Wednesday night's San Francisco Giants game.
Jonathan Denver, 24, died after getting into a fight with a group of Giants fans near AT&T Park.
Neighbors of one of the suspects, Michael Montgomery, were shaken and stunned after learning of the news on Thursday.
One neighbor says family members of the suspect have been walking up and down the stairs trying to grasp the allegations against the Lodi man.
When CBS 13 approached the apartment, they yelled expletives and asked us to go away.
Police say Wednesday's confrontation happened six blocks from AT&T Park, and was fueled by trash talking about the baseball rivalry.
Neighbors describe Montgomery as a nice and humble man who likes to party.
"You know he's young he's 21 so he has a little bit of that side to him. Maybe a little fun partying side" said a neighbor who didn't want to be identified.
Police say he didn't go to Wednesday night's game, but he went from Lodi to San Francisco to go club-hopping with friends.
At Thursday night's game, the final matchup between the two rivals this season, Giant orange and Dodger blue stood shoulder to shoulder at the ballpark.
"For the most part, everyone that did here about it was shocked and dismayed and quite frankly we don't want it to happen again," said Giants fan Kat Bazlen.
The scene of the stabbing showed no signs of a struggle.
In response to the stabbing, San Francisco Police stepped up their presence at the ballpark on Thursday.
Dodgers fans showed up in force to watch the storied rivalry play out on the field, not in a fight.
"A lot of the fans here are great," said one Dodger fan. "People heckle me, and it was all in good fun, though."
