Local Moviegoers Give Their Take On '2016: Obama's America'
DAVIS (CBS13) - It's called "2016: Obama's America" and it's playing in mainstream movie theaters. CBS13 got early reaction from both sides of the aisle.
As interest in this race continues to peak, days before the Republican convention, and just weeks before Election Day, it's "2016: Obama's America", a movie about what this country might look like after four more years of an Obama presidency, and how Obama's past could define America in the next four years.
The movie is about an hour and a half long and is directed by conservative author Dinesh D'Souza who uses sound of Barack Obama reading from his book "Dreams From My Father".
D'souza poses the question: If Obama wins a second term, where will the country be in 2016? We went to two cities known for being on opposite sides of the political aisle to find out: Davis and Roseville.
"I believe in America and I believe in Obama," said a Davis resident.
That was the reaction from one Davis moviegoer who hopes the movie will boost support for the president. Others in Davis who saw "Obama 2016" left the theater thinking it might cost him some votes.
Tony: Do you think people will see this and perhaps change their minds about how they will vote?
Davis resident: I really don't know. Not people in Davis.
Tony: Do you think it could impact somebody who might be on the fence about whether to vote for him?
Davis resident: I think it might.
In conservative-leaning Roseville?
Roseville resident: "I thought it was great."
Tony: You thought it was great. Are you an Obama supporter?
Roseville resident: No.
That was the popular reaction from a crowd who admitted they aren't big Obama fans in the first place.
"I think the people coming to it are the ones who are already non-Obama supporters, so they just want to reaffirm what they believe," said one person we interviewed.
Early Friday night numbers show this movie is already doing very well on this first day of its nationwide release. It's expected to finish number two at the weekend box office.
