Like A Good Neighbor: Woodland Man Chases Down Burglary Suspect
WOODLAND (CBS13) — When a Woodland man saw thieves running from his neighbor's house, he jumped into action on Tuesday afternoon and chased down one of the suspects.
That suspect is still being held at the Monroe Detention Center, and investigators say there is no way he would have ended up in jail without the quick thinking of the Good Samaritan.
"Thank God for good people in this world. There's still some out there," said Anastasia Flores, whose house on Utah Street was the one burglarized. "I didn't think it would happen to us."
Anastasia, husband Frank and Anastasia's mother Charlene Miller owe a lot to their good neighbor, who wasn't available to go on camera with CBS13 after his good deed.
Woodland Police say while the family was away, three guys broke into their home in broad daylight and stole laptops and other items.
Charlene got a call at work from her daughter. "She was like, 'Mom somebody's broke into the house.'"
Investigators say as the suspects were leaving the house with the goods, a neighbor was watching. According to investigators, the neighbor saw all three suspects hop over the fence and head down the street.
"He tried calling them and they kept walking, ignoring him," Anastasia said.
"They started running down the street," Frank added.
"And he ran after them," Anastasia said.
He chased the three suspects to an alleyway about three blocks away. Two got away, but he caught one.
"He grabbed him and actually got him on the ground," Anastasia said.
Police say the neighbor held on to 18-year-old Louie Brown until officers arrived and that all of the property was recovered nearby.
"I'm very grateful for our neighbor. He's a guardian angel," Charlene said.
Brown is still in jail $50,000 bail facing burglary charges. The two other suspects are still at large, but the homeowners say Brown has already given police information about his alleged partners.
