Light Quakes Rumble Across Nevada Border
HAWTHORNE, Nev. (AP) -- A series of minor earthquakes have rattled a rural area near the California-Nevada border, but authorities say no immediate injuries or damages have been reported.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the two largest of the temblors -- a magnitude 4.2 and magnitude 4.0 -- hit within about five minutes each other Sunday, with the smaller one striking first at about 5:16 p.m.
The two quakes were centered in a rural area about 12 miles south-southwest of Hawthorne, Nev.
A magnitude 3.3. quake struck in the same general spot at about 6:05 p.m., and several smaller earthquakes were reported in the area earlier Sunday.
