Lawyer: Quarry Suspect Told Deputies To Kill Him
SUNNYVALE (AP) -- The lawyer for the Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputies who killed a man believed to be the suspect in a deadly quarry shooting says the man made a suicidal comment and brandished a handgun before the deputies opened fire.
Terry Bowman represents deputies Fabian De Santiago, Christopher Hilt and Lindsay Crist.
Officials say the three were on routine patrol Thursday morning in Sunnyvale when they spotted the man believed to be Shareef Allman crouching behind a car. Bowman says that when they confronted him, the man uttered the words "kill me" before raising the hand in which he held a gun.
Authorities had been hunting for the 47-year-old Allman since Wednesday, when he allegedly opened fire at a work meeting in Cupertino, killing three colleagues and wounding six.
People who knew the disgruntled worker said he felt mistreated on the job and angry about a recent suspension.
Brandon Powell of Sacramento said Allman visited him last Saturday and showed off a new AK-47 assault rifle that he told Powell was intended for some "racist people at my job. They're messing with me."
