Law Enforcement Converges On Elk Grove For One-Day Crackdown
ELK GROVE (CBS13) — Sacramento-area law enforcement converged on Elk Grove for a one-day crackdown on both motorists and pedestrians.
In all, 21 police officers representing five agencies are looking for lawbreakers.
"Pedestrian violations. Pedestrian right of way violations. Bicycle safety, distracted driving and of course any other violation," said Elk Grove Sgt. Dan Schnepple.
Joining Elk Grove Police were officers from departments in Citrus Heights, Sacramento, Folsom, West Sacramento and Rancho Cordova. The once a month crackdown rotates to cities throughout Sacramento County. Tuesday just happened to be Elk Grove's turn.
"It's a way we can all get together and help each other out," said Manny Konstantinidis with Rancho Cordova Police.
The officers expected to give out more than 250 citations in a one-day saturation.
Most drivers like the idea, including one man getting a ticket for allegedly doing 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Not everyone gets a citation, just a warning, but officers believe their presence alone gets the job done.
"You see all the red lights. The speed slows down. Everybody starts behaving. But it certainly leaves room for conversation with the citizens," Schnepple said.
Citrus Heights will be next month's target.
