Suspect arrested in Lathrop chase allegedly crashed into police vehicles and assaulted K9
LATHROP – A suspect has been arrested after a chase in Lathrop that saw him allegedly crash into several law enforcement vehicles and assault a police K9.
Lathrop police said, on the night of Nov. 21, officers responded to a neighborhood near Kerry Court and Gresham Street to investigate reports of a reckless driver. There, officers encountered a Hummer that refused to yield.
The driver took off through the River Islands area – allegedly crashing his Hummer intentionally into several Lathrop police vehicles, officers said.
After driving over an embankment, the suspect's vehicle looked to be disabled. Officers closed in and blocked the vehicle.
Even then, police said the suspect allegedly continued to resist. This is when the police K9 was allegedly assaulted by the suspect, officers said. It took officers using less-lethal force to get the suspect into custody.
The suspect was first taken to the San Joaquin County Hospital before he was medically cleared to be booked into jail.
Police said the suspect, whose name has not yet been released, is facing charges of felony reckless evasion, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a police K9, and resisting arrest.
