Lathrop Man Dies In Early Morning Crash On Interstate 5

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A 20-year-old Lathrop man died early Thursday morning after his car drove off Interstate 5 and crashed into a tree.

The accident happened at about 5 a.m. on northbound I-5 near Gloria Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol's south Sacramento office. A 2002 Honda Accord spun out of control, left the interstate and the rear of it collided with a tree.

It was raining heavily at the time and the weather may have contributed to the crash, the CHP said.

The man, whose name wasn't immediately released, was found deceased inside the car. No one else was in the vehicle.
The driver was wearing his seat belt and alcohol or drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash, the CHP said.

The South Sacramento CHP Area office will be completing an investigation into the accident. If you have information, call the south Sacramento CHP office at (916) 681-2300 or CHP dispatch at (916) 861-1300.
