Late-Season Storm Sets Rainfall Records In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - After an extremely dry start to the rainy season in the fall, we're finishing with a flourish this spring.

Wednesday's storm set a record for rainfall in downtown Sacramento, according to the National Weather Service.

Rainfall totaled 0.65 of an inch, breaking the previous record for the April 25 date of 0.61 back in 1952.

At the Sacramento Executive Airport, rainfall Wednesday totaled 0.54, also a record for that location. It nudged out the previous record for the date of 0.53, which also occurred in 1952.

Several other spots around the region received impressive rain totals. The 24-hour totals ending at noon Thursday included: Blue Canyon 2.31; Bald Mountain 2.09; Nevada City 2.09, Elk Grove .80; and Stockton .52.

The precipitation started off as rain in the Sierra but turned to snow on Thursday in the higher elevations, about 6,300 feet.

A couple of thunderstorms were reported on the eastern side of the valley into the foothills on Thursday. There should be more occurrences popping up throughout the valley into Thursday night, but Friday is expected to be clear and warming back up to the low 70s. Temperatures in the 80s are forecast for the weekend.
