Large Pot Operation Busted; 4 In Custody
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- An illegal marijuana growing operating spanning seven locations has landed four suspects in federal custody, according to a spokesperson with the state Department of Justice.
Two U-haul trucks were brought in to haul away the plants at a warehouse in the 3500 block of LeGrande Avenue in south Sacramento and another at undisclosed location on Wednesday morning. Drug agents also seized expensive cars and a number of boats.
Joseph Andrade, Jonathan Sherman, Peter Holzmann and Thomas Holzmann were arrested.
Neighboring businesses suspected something was going on when an electrician came out to set up power recently, but a legitimate business never opened up.
"They had a sign on the window saying Sacramento Flower Shop," said Mike Reese, a neighboring business owner. "That's the wrong kind of flower shop."
State drug agents have been assisted by local authorities in this operation. They say it has been under investigation for nearly a year.
The pot operation was not associated with medical marijuana distribution, according to authorities, who said the weed was being sold on the street.
