Large Chile Earthquake Sparks Pacific Tsunami Fears
IQUIQUE, CHILE (CBS13) — A large earthquake has struck off the coast of Chile, prompting tsunami watches and warnings.
The 8.2-magnitude quake struck just over 60 miles off the coast of Iquique, Chile at 4:46 p.m. PDT
A tsunami warning is in effect for Chile, Peru, Colombia, Panama and Ecuador. A watch is in effect for Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras.
Several waves from the quake under 7 feet have been observed in Chile.
A magnitude-6.2 aftershock hit 12 minutes after the first quake.
