LAPD Captain Announced As Incoming West Sacramento Police Chief
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The city of West Sacramento has appointed a Los Angeles police captain as the incoming chief of police.
Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Tom McDonald currently serves as the commanding officer for the police department's bomb squad, bomb K-9, and hazmat units.
"We are very pleased to add someone with Mr. McDonald's leadership and background to our city's police department and management team," said West Sacramento City Manager Martin Tuttle.
McDonald will be replacing Chief Dan Drummond, who recently announced his retirement after nine years of service.
"I am looking forward to building on Chief Drummond's efforts and contributing to, and being part of, West Sacramento's emergence as a great city," said McDonald.
Among some of McDonald's achievements in his 30-year career, he developed the award winning counter-terrorism program "Operation Archangel" following the September 11 attacks. The program is designed to protect vulnerable locations in Los Angeles.
"His personality and expertise are a perfect match for the department and the community," said Tuttle.
McDonald, who joined the LAPD in 1983, will begin in early July.
