La Jolla Shores Reopens In Time For July 4 Crowds
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Lifeguards say La Jolla Shores in San Diego has been reopened to swimmers and surfers in time for the Fourth of July holiday.
The beach was closed Monday after a lifeguard spotted what appeared to be a great white shark about 50 yards off the coast.
Lifeguard Lt. Greg Buchanan tells City News Service the shark, which measured between 12 feet and 15 feet, was spotted about 3:15 p.m. from the main lifeguard tower at La Jolla Shores.
He says the water was closed from the Marine Room to Scripps Pier and out to the half-mile buoy.
Boats and a helicopter helped lifeguards search for the shark but it was not seen again.
The water was reopened early Tuesday.
