LA County DA Won't Charge Man For Graffiti At Chick-Fil-A
TORRANCE (AP) — Los Angeles County prosecutors say they won't file charges against a 30-year-old artist who was arrested for scrawling "tastes like hate" on the side of a Chick-fil-A restaurant.
A Wednesday district attorney's statement says suspect Manuel Castro has acknowledged his wrongdoing, has offered to make restitution and does not appear to have been motivated by religious hatred in the vandalism found Aug. 3 outside the Chick-Fil-A in Torrance.
The Torrance city attorney can still charge Castro with misdemeanors.
The message, accompanied by a cow like those in the company's ads, came as gay marriage supporters ramped up protests against the corporate owner's opposition to same-sex unions.
The flap began last month when Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy told a religious publication that the company backed "the biblical definition of a family."
