Kings Staying Would Be Boon For Downtown Sacramento
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — It was another lonely night along Sacramento's Downtown Plaza on Monday, but this rundown ghost town corner of the city is a step closer to being brought back to life.
"To say that people are excited downtown is a little bit of an understatement," said Michael Ault with the Downtown Partnership.
It's not an understatement to say without a huge project like the proposed sports and entertainment complex, this area would continue to suffer.
"I mean this is a game changer for us downtown and something that will absolutely change how people in this region will look at the central city," said Ault
A city that still has tons of work to do to transform tons of concrete into a vibrant arena.
"We've also got to get to work on the specific contracts with the ownership group, so that's another big job to get done," said John Shirey, the city manager for Sacramento.
The first order of business is completing an environmental impact report.
Natomas businesses couldn't be happier—they were one vote away from having no game in town next year.
The project also offers a chance for out of work contractors, like Ray Burton to find work once the building starts.
