Kings Draft Preview: 3 Possible Scenarios
"With the 8th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select..."
Who are the Kings going to pick? What position will they play? Will it turn out to be a good pick? Will Grant Napear evaluate the pick seconds after the 8th selection?
All of those questions won't be answered until the moment actually comes during Thursday night's draft. Except for Grant; we know he's going to wait three years to evaluate the pick.
But here's another thought, what happens if the Kings don't make a selection in the 8th spot?
There are numerous possibilities Sacramento could pursue, but here are three scenarios which could happen Thursday night.
1. Kings Trade Down In The Draft For Players Or Picks.
The Kings could definitely use a good draft pick, however, the roster is more than just one player away from being a playoff team.
There are many question marks in the starting lineup as well as the bench.
The Kings could trade their pick on Thursday for more draft picks, or some quality players from teams which want to move up.
If Sacramento was just one player away from being a good team, then trading the pick wouldn't be an option, but if the team can get more bang for their buck, why not?
2. Kings Trade Up To Draft A Potential Superstar.
This is probably the least likely to happen, but it's worth noting that the Kings may have some players along with the 8th pick to move up in the draft.
It doesn't seem as if the Philadelphia 76ers or Los Angeles Lakers have any thought of trading the number one and two picks, but the Boston Celtics have been shopping its pick at three.
If there is a player on the board, after Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, who the Kings feel could be a huge asset to the team, a trade up to the top could be a possibility.
Again, it's not likely, but it's something to keep in mind as the top two picks are being announced.
3. Kings Keep Pick And Hope For The Best.
It's safe to say the Kings do not have the best draft history. However, the first real pick under Vlade Divac, Willie Cauley-Stein, seems to be solid.
The draft is when the structure of the roster starts to be built for the 2016-17 season and Sacramento's biggest needs are at the point and shooting guard positions.
Gary Parrish of CBS Sports has the Kings selecting Jaylen Brown out of California in his latest mock draft.
It's all just speculation until the actual pick happens, but Brown would be a great selection for Sacramento. The 6-foot-7 shooting guard has a 7 foot wingspan and averaged almost 15 points per game his freshman year.
