King Fire: Cooler Weather Slows Wildfire's Spread, Allows Firefighters To Double Containment
EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) — The glow of the King Fire lit up the El Dorado County hillside on Thursday night after cooler temperatures slowed the spread of the fire.
The wildfire only grew 3,000 acres on Thursday compared to the massive 40,000-acre explosion on Wednesday night.
"It's nice we get to sleep easier, but we worry about our friends at that end," said Pollock Pines resident Lori Campbell.
She and Ian Campbell are back home and beginning to feel some measure of relief.
"I think Mother Nature saved Pollock Pines, 'cause it started here and it's gone pretty much that way the whole time. If it had gone over Highway 50, I think Pollock Pines would've been gone," Ian said.

FORESTHILL (CBS13) — The fire was most active to the northeast in remote backcountry near the Tahoe National Forest, but firefighters are still battling spot fires and flareups near Highway 50 and Ice House Road.
For the first time, we have a glimpse at some of the damage done as several outbuildings burned to the ground on White Meadow Road, while other buildings were spared in the middle of the inferno.
While Pollock Pines seems to be out of the line of fire on Thursday night, people in Foresthill are wondering if they are next.
The scenic outlook is a popular spot to gaze over the Sierra, but lately people are stopping for a different reason.
Smoke from the massive King Fire can be seen from the vantage, and now the homeowners are wondering if they're in the path of the blaze.
It was a packed house at Foresthill High will people wanting to know how close the fire is and how likely it is to head that way.
Crews say the fire is about 14 miles away, and while it's mainly pushed to the northeast, they are getting teams ready to head here if it pushes northwest toward homes in Foresthill.
