Keith Brooks & Carmichael Dave - July 15, 2013
The Oakland A's were the hot topic of conversation leading off the Monday edition of Keith Brooks and Carmichael Dave after the A's won two out of three over the AL East-leading Boston Red Sox over the weekend. Josh Donaldson capped Sunday's extra inning affair with a walk-off RBI in the 11th, sending the A's into the all-star break with positive momentum.
After champion sprinter Tyson Gay admitted over the weekend that he had failed a drug test for a banned substance, that prompted Keith and Dave to bring up PED's in other sports and how stringent the penalties should actually be for cheating athletes. Further, it has been revealed that MLB has offered Alex Rodriguez a plea deal to reduce his suspension if he is willing to come clean about the pending Biogenesis PED scandal. These developments prompted a world-problem-solving discussion about performance enhancers in sports.
After "Three Up/Three Down," Keith and Dave discussed a few off-court headlines, including touching on athletes' reactions to the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman verdict. Roddy White of the Falcons and Victor Cruz of the Giants each had some noteworthy thoughts on the trial.
Keith followed by giving his midseason MLB grades, and after batting that around, it was time for the Red Card Payoff. The guys kept the show pretty clean, but Dave's crafty lie to his kids that got him a free pass to watch the end of Lincecum's no-hitter earned him a negative red card that was just enough to edge Keith and make Dave the Big Loser of the Day.
