Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Helping Replace Stolen Fairfield Turkeys
FAIRFIELD (CBS13) — Kansas City Chiefs linebacker James Michael Johnson is stepping up to help replace 300 turkeys stolen from a homeless shelter.
When the former Solano County football star heard a local shelter was hit by thieves, he says it was a no-brainer to try and replace what was lost.
"I figured I am in a situation where I can help, where I can give back, so that is something I wanted to do," Johnson said.
Hundreds of turkeys meant for struggling families were taken from Mission Solano. The group had planned to collect nearly 1,000 turkeys to serve the homeless in the Fairfield area.
"I have never had anybody steal our turkeys," said Mission Solano founder Ron Marlette. "The people that come here—hope begins with a meal at Mission Solano, and that is stealing hope from people in my opinion."
After hearing about the theft, Johnson took to Twitter
"I figured other people see that, and they may want to donate, too," he said.
Marlette is thankful Johnson is donating more turkeys. He says what's done is done, and it's time to regroup and help those in need.
"We can't stay sad about it, we've got to move on," he said. "The people are coming, the ones that have signed up, we told them we will have their turkeys here, one way or the other."
