Isaiah Fowler Trial: Attorneys Push Back Possible Trial Date In Sister's Stabbing Death
SAN ANDREAS (CBS13) — The 12-year-old Calaveras County boy accused of murdering his little sister faced a judge on Wednesday.
The short hearing on Wednesday had both sides agreeing to take more time before setting a trial date for Isaiah Fowler in the stabbing death of his sister, 8-year-old Leila Fowler.
The next hearing is set for September.
Isaiah entered the Calaveras County courthouse with a jacket covering his head.
The boy's legal team says it's still waiting on additional evidence.
"We were told 2,000 hours of law enforcement," said defense attorney Steve Plesser. "We know that hundreds of those hours were spent by FBI agents. We have yet to see a single document generated by the FBI in this case."
Isaiah's attorneys are using a private investigator to check out who they call "other suspects."
"Law enforcement has generated some suspects. We are aware of most of the suspects they looked at. We have additional suspects we are looking at."
Isaiah previously entered not-guilty pleas. He remains locked up in juvenile hall while he awaits trial.
Family members kept quiet as they exited the courthouse. The district attorney also did not comment.
Isaiah and Leila were home alone when she was killed in April. Isaiah told investigators he saw an intruder running away.
The boy was arrested two weeks later.
The defense is hopeful they boy's trial will take place before the end of the year.
