Investigators Analyzing Knives, Searching For Clues In Leila Fowler Murder
VALLEY SPRINGS (CBS13) — For the second day in a row, investigators work to clear brush around the home where 8-year-old Leila Fowler was stabbed to death almost a week ago.
Earlier in the investigation, detectives found knives at the crime scene, but won't reveal if that includes the murder weapon.
Sometimes these cases get frustrating, and all of a sudden you get a break," said Calaveras County Sheriff Gary Kuntz. "We are looking for that one break.
So far, investigators have ruled out two suspects and continue to talk with witnesses. There's still no sketch of the man Leila's 12-year-old brother says he saw running away. And the witness who claimed she also saw the killer changed her story.
"Sometimes people like to get involved, there's people who thought they saw something, they get attention," said Kuntz.
The sheriff said he's still waiting on DNA results, which should take about two weeks.
