Investigation Into Modesto Infant's Injuries Leads Police To Pot Grow
MODESTO (CBS13) - Modesto police arrested four people in connection with a severely injured infant and marijuana grow.
On Saturday, police responded to a call from the Doctor's Medical Center that a critically injured infant was brought to the hospital by relatives. The infant was transferred to Oakland Children's Hospital and remains in critical condition.
Officers went to the home where the child had been living, in the 1000 block of Boulder Avenue, and found all three bedrooms were being used to grow marijuana. The entire family, which consists of four adults and six children, was living in the living room area and a converted closet.
In total, officers found 200 marijuana plants. They were being grown using lights powered from stolen electricity, say police.
Police arrested Elizabeth Aguilar, 18, Daniel Villasenor, 19, Raul Aguilar, 26, and Maria Hernandez, 30, on several charges, including child endangerment, causing injury to a child, marijuana cultivation and possession of marijuana for sale.
The remaining five children, ranging in age from 5 to 12, were taken by Child Protective Services.
Police have not said how the infant was injured, nor have they said what injuries the infant sustained.
