Investigation Into Brawl At Turlock Sikh Temple Results In Arrest Of Ceres Man
TURLOCK (CBS13) - Police say one man has been arrested after a large fight broke out at a place of worship.
Turlock Police said they've been coming to Sunday worship at the Turlock Sikh temple for the past six months because of the potential of a disagreement between two ideologies breaking into violence.
This past Sunday, tensions boiled over and a brawl broke out. As captured on cellphone video, officers responded with Tasers drawn to a chaotic scene at the temple. Numerous agencies, including the Stanislaus Sheriff's Department, California Highway Patrol and the Merced Sheriff's Department showed up to break up the fight.
A witness told CBS13 that the fight started with two women.
No arrests were made that day, but on Thursday investigators announced they had arrested 38-year-old Ceres resident Sandeep Singh. He is facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators note that the cellphone video and witness statements were key in helping them make an arrest.
A press conference is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. for police and the mayor of Turlock to discuss the case.
