UPDATE: Interstate 80 Crash Closes Eastbound Lanes Near Vacaville After Police Pursuit
VACAVILLE (CBS13) — A crash on Interstate 80 closed eastbound lanes near Vacaville after a police pursuit.
Police say two men tried to steal a television out of the back of a Walmart in Vacaville. They ran the plates of the suspects and since they were out of Sacramento assumed that they would be returning and waited on Interstate 80.
They found the vehicle and pulled it over.
Police say there was an encounter that led to an officer firing at least one shot into the suspect's far, striking the driver.
From there, the driver is alleged to have tried to drive away erractically in the car, until it crashed.
The officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave, as is typical in this situation.
The roadway has since reopened.
