Intercepted Text Message Leads To Suspected Drug Dealer's Arrest

LODI (AP) — A suspected drug dealer is facing charges thanks to the persistence of a Lodi man who says he intercepted a text message offering to sell OxyContin to his son.

The Lodi News Sentinel reports that the 52-year-old father — who has not been named — responded to the text from Andrew Thomas Beck Monday night and invited Beck to come to the family home.

The father said he only wanted to confront the 24-year-old Beck, but that after Beck arrived, he sped off, nearly running down the father's daughter.

As father and daughter gave chase in their car, the daughter called police.

Lodi police Sgt. Doug Chinn says Beck was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

As for the father, he says he says he's trying to figure out how to handle his son's drug problem.
