Inmate Killed In Cell At New Folsom Prison
REPRESA (CBS13) – An inmate was found dead in his cell at New Folsom Prison early Saturday morning, and authorities believe his cellmate is responsible.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) said 38-year-old Anthony Steadham was found unresponsive in his maximum-security cell at 3:10 a.m. and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 5:00 a.m.
Steadham's cellmate, identified as 43-year-old Maurice Woodson, has been named as the suspect in the incident.
Steadham has been in prison since 1997 after being convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole. Woodson has been in prison since April 2001 after being convicted of attempted murder and assault with a firearm and sentenced to more than 46 years in prison.
The alleged murder comes just a few days after 150 inmates were involved in a riot at the same prison, leaving 11 inmates hurt.
