Three Students Hurt In Elk Grove Bus Crash

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Three students were hurt in a bus accident in Elk Grove this morning, according to Elk Grove Police.

The accident involved an e-tran bus and a sedan and happened at the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and Elk Grove Boulevard.

Police say the bus was heading south on Franklin Boulevard when a car made a right turn in front of the bus.  The bus driver clipped the sedan and swerved to try and avoid it ending up off the road in a field.

Three students of the 23 students on board the bus were taken to the hospital with minor injuries including one student with a broken nose.

Franklin High Junior Kyle Roby says the Kia sedan came out of nowhere.

"We were up on two wheels. The bus driver knew to turn to the right instead of flipping the bus," said Roby.

A passenger in the Kia sedan describes the events leading up to the crash a little differently.

"We made a full stop, took a second or two to make sure the path was clear," said Kenneth Wood. "When we took the turn the bus was actually behind us a little bit."

Elk Grove-area students use e-tran buses for transportation to and from school.

Elk Grove police have not said if the driver of the sedan will face a citation.
