Injuries Reported In Contra Costa County Amtrak Crash
DISCOVERY BAY (CBS13) -- A number of injuries have been reported after a packed Amtrak train struck a big rig Friday evening in Contra Costa County.
According to a passenger, the train struck the trailer of a semi-truck near the intersection of Orwood Road and Bixler Road at about 7:20 p.m., shaking the entire train and injuring dozens of people.
The train, which had departed from Oakland and was heading to Bakersfield, did not derail, according to authorities.
There were 204 passengers aboard the train at the time, but no life threatening injuries have been reported, according to CBS San Francisco. An East Contra Costa County fire chief said about 35 passengers complained of pain and minor injuries.
The condition of the truck driver has not been reported.1
