Infant Receives Surgery On Fused Fingers
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Mason Fluty is turning ten months old and he's already faced a lifetime of surgeries.
He has something called Apert Syndrome. His skull was fused in the womb and his fingers are fused together, forming what looks like a fin.
Mason's family had no idea what was wrong when he was born.
"Complete shock, it was extremely hard. It makes me cry when I think about it," grandmother Donna Settles.
But now, they don't see a disability, they see a beautiful baby boy.
"But, when you take him places, obviously, some people do look," said Settles.
Mason recently had surgery out of state to separate some fingers, but more surgeries are ahead. He has two more surgeries to separate all fingers and toes, and it's not cheap.
The family's looking to raise $75,000.
"Social media, huge. I don't think we would've raised as much money as we have without that Facebook page," said Settles.
He'll have plenty of support, an army of family that loves him.
Already, they're calling these latest and biggest surgeries a success.
"Dr. Feron says he'll even have fingernails, which sounds like a small thing. But, to us, it's huge," said Settles.
