I-80 Near Truckee Open In Both Directions Following Crash
TRUCKEE (AP) — The main highway over the Sierra Nevada has reopened in both directions between Truckee and the California-Nevada border after a FedEx truck spilled diesel fuel across all lanes.
California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Prisco says Interstate 80 was shut down after the crash occurred at 6:35 a.m. Friday, but both westbound lanes and one eastbound lane have since reopened.
The driver of the eastbound semitrailer trailer apparently swerved to avoid a deer and hit the south-side guard rail. The truck's fuel tank ruptured, spilling at least 100 gallons of diesel fuel across the highway.
Prisco says a crew is cleaning up the hazardous fuel, and no fuel spilled into the Truckee River.
He says the driver wasn't injured, and the other eastbound lane should reopen by late Friday afternoon.
