Hyatt Place Hotel Approved For Sacramento International Airport

NATOMAS (CBS13) — A new hotel is coming to the Sacramento airport, likely luring travelers who stay in Natomas to the building.

The hotel will feature 132 rooms and 3,500 square feet of conference space just a few minutes away from gates at Sacramento International Airport.

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approved the multimillion-dollar Hyatt Place to be built on airport property. While supervisors see it as a chance to serve travelers, it could also have an impact on businesses that already do that.

Giggy Shahi is the general manager of one of those businesses, the Four Points by Sheraton Sacramento International Airport. The hotel is technically in Natomas, but shuttles are offered 24 hours a day to the airport.

Shahi, however, says her concerns are overshadowed by hope that great things could be in store for the area.

"A lot of times we do get meetings in Sacramento and we can't accommodate them due to hotel rooms, they will try to find another city or town, so this is nice," she said. "Now the more hotel rooms we get, the bigger functions and meetings we can do."

She says investors seeing a need for more high-quality rooms is good, possibly attracting large conventions.

The Natomas restaurant Malabar gets plenty of airport travelers, but they say they're not too worried either, thinking their location between downtown and the airport will continue to appeal.

The project should break ground in the next few months and will likely be complete by early 2017.
