Humpback Whale Freed From Lobster Trap Line Near San Diego
LA JOLLA (AP) — Rescuers have helped free a humpback whale that got tangled in a lobster trap line off the coast of San Diego.
The Coast Guard says a fishing boat reported seeing the distressed whale about 7 miles northwest of La Jolla Sunday morning, and that the line appeared to be hindering its ability to swim and dive.
Crews from the Coast Guard and Sea World worked together for several hours to disentangle the whale.
The effort was overseen by the National Marine Fisheries Service.
