Horse Meat Found In Taco Bell Beef Products In United Kingdom
IRVINE, Calif. (CBS Sacramento) -- Horse meat has now been found in Taco Bell products in the United Kingdom.
BBC News reports that the fast-food chain began testing for horse meat after the scandal broke in January where horse meat was detected in beef from European suppliers.
"Based on that testing, we learned ingredients supplied to us from one supplier in Europe tested positive for horse meat," a Taco Bell spokesperson told BBC. "We immediately withdrew it from sale, and discontinued purchase of that meat and contacted the Food Standards Agency with this information."
Taco Bell pulled the affected beef products from its three restaurants in Britain.
The move comes after Ikea pulled its Swedish meatballs and sausages from its menus across Europe after traces of horse meats were found in the beef used to make those products.
Taco Bell's corporate headquarters are located in Irvine.
