Wet weather wreaks havoc on Sierra, Central Valley roads
TRUCKEE – Central Valley and Sierra roads are dealing with significant traffic problems as wet weather returns to Northern California on Veterans Day.
Along Interstate 80 in the Sierra, chains were required on vehicles between Kingvale and Truckee as of 10:55 p.m. Earlier in the day, multiple spinouts over Donner Summit led to a full closure of the freeway.
Chain controls are also in effect on Highway 50 between Kyburz and Twin Bridges.

Over on Highway 88, south of Lake Tahoe and east of Caples Lake in Alpine County, at least 16 vehicles were involved in a pile-up crash due to drivers traveling too fast or without chain tires, the California Highway Patrol said. The highway at Red Lake Road was expected to be closed for an extended time.

A significant crash involving a big rig also has Highway 99 traffic slow through Modesto on Monday.
The crash happened just before noon along the southbound side of the freeway near the N. Briggsmore Avenue onramp.
Exactly what led up to the crash is unclear, but a big rig and at least one other vehicle were involved. It's unclear if there were any injuries.
Two lanes were blocked for an extended time.
