High Winds Expected To Blow Out Fog Wednesday Morning
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Fog is expected to give way to high winds beginning Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The service has issued a high-wind advisory for the Sacramento Valley from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. on Thursday. Winds are expected to reach 25-35 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph.
These should be the strongest winds of the season thus far, the weather service said. They will be strongest on the west side of the Central Valley and across the crest and west slopes of the Sierra Nevada. The air will be cold and dry, according to the weather service.
Sustained easterly winds of 30-40 mph with gusts to 65 mph will develop by Wednesday afternoon along the crest from Lake Tahoe southward with sustained 25-35 mph and gusts to 50 mph along the northern crest and in the west slopes from Plumas County southward. After midnight, winds along the ridges of the Sierra are expected to increase to 50-70 mph with gusts up to 95 mph.
The weather service advises to watch out for downed trees and limbs, damage to power lines, damage to unsecured objects, dangerous driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles, and blowing dust and debris across roadways with possible reduced visibility.
The weekend is expected to be sunny but cool, with daytime highs only reaching the high 50s and overnight lows dropping into the mid-30s.
