Heavy Snowfall Snarls Holiday Traffic In The Sierra
ALTA (CBS13) - Travelers had to endure hours in slow-moving traffic to get home after the holiday, or to get up the mountain to go skiing.
It took three hours for a CBS13 truck just to get to Alta on I-80, and drivers can't go any further until they put chains on their cars.
"We got our white Christmas," said a driver.
But at what cost?
"Three hours," said one driver.
"Four hours," said another driver.
People spent a good part of their Christmas in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
"We're going to have to do this two or three more times before we get all the way to Colorado," said some motorists.
The snow may be good for skiing, but not for driving.
"Oh well, I had nothing else to do," said one driver.
And other than 4-wheel-drive vehicles, all cars needed chains to go up the hill.
"I'm pulling a trailer, so I had to stop and put chains on my car to get home," said a driver.
But it's still Christmas, and for some it was worth the wait just for a chance at a snowball fight.
"It's their first snow, so we are up here having some fun," said one driver.
This is probably what traffic will look like the rest of the night on I-80. It doesn't appear to be letting up any time soon.
