Heavy Rain, High Surf, Snow In NorCal Forecast
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS13/AP) — Heavy rain, pounding waves and plenty of snow in the mountains are all in the forecast as Northern Californians brace for a weekend of wintry weather.
As one storm system moves through the region Saturday, a second system is expected to hit the area Sunday.
In the mountains, heavy snow is expected Saturday and Sunday, with up to four feet predicted to fall in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada.
Interstate 80 was completely covered in snow and ice, which made for dangerous and slow driving conditions heading up the mountain.
Most drivers were on their way to a holiday vacation, but the trip getting there was more like a nightmare.
There was stop-and-go traffic from Gold Run all the way to Lake Tahoe as people stopped to put on chains on the side of the road.
Meanwhile Caltrans workers took extra precautions in the heavy snow, shutting down Interstate 80 near Colfax because of accidents and spinning out trucks.
