Suspect In E. Waterloo Road Homicide Arrested After Standoff At La Quinta Inn

STOCKTON (CBS13) —A tense several-hour hostage standoff came to an end Tuesday afternoon in Stockton after authorities rushed a La Quinta Inn on March Lane.

The sheriff's department confirmed that the Waterloo Road homicide suspect, 32-year-old Alejandro Ruvalcaba, was arrested in the standoff at La Quinta Inn Tuesday. He was booked on robbery and homicide charges.

The Sheriff's office said Ruvalcaba fatally shot 42-year-old Anthony Quismondo last Wednesday evening on the 2600 block of E. Waterloo Road. The victim was reportedly selling shoes when Ruvacalba tried to rob him and shot him.

Earlier Tuesday, another person was taken into police custody at a hotel in Stockton where, police say, a dangerous situation was unfolding. It is not clear how that man is connected to the unfolding situation.

Sheriff's spokesperson Andrea Lopez said Ruvalcaba had a woman in the hotel room and let her go at some point. The relationship between him and the woman is unclear at this time.

Lopez said hostage negotiators responded to the scene and worked to contact the suspect while he was inside the La Quinta Inn on West March Lane.

A SWAT team also responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported in the incident Tuesday. Lopez said the sheriff's office is very glad to have Ruvalcaba in custody after searching for him around the clock since July 3.

On July 4, deputies said Ruvalcaba was involved in a crash near the intersection of Keyes and Berkeley roads, north of Turlock. He was believed to be carrying a handgun and escaped the scene before deputies could make contact with him.

Guests at the La Quinta Inn were evacuated during the incident. It is unclear when they will be allowed back into their rooms.
