Gunshot Wounds Found In Missing Father, Daughter

PLACERVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) -- Autopsies have confirmed that both the father and daughter who were found dead after an AMBER Alert last week suffered from gunshot wounds, authorities said.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department said 2-year-old Madeline Layla Samaan-Fay sustained two gunshot wounds before her father, 49-year-old Mourad Samaan, killed himself with a single gunshot.

Madeline's official cause of death is still listed as pending until toxicology reports can determine whether she died of carbon monoxide poisoning before being shot.

The FBI issued an AMBER Alert on Friday after Madeline's mother reported that Samaan had not returned custody of his daughter after he was last seen at a Gold River supermarket the previous weekend.

The father and daughter were found dead inside their vehicle, parked on Samaan's rural El Dorado County property on Saturday.

Investigators have not released the time of death for the two victims, but the FBI said all of Samaan's electronic traces and banking activity ceased nearly a week before they were found.
