Gunmen Rob Frat Party At UC Davis
DAVIS, Calif. (CBS13) -- Two armed suspects allegedly robbed several partygoers at a UC Davis fraternity house before stealing a car and crashing a short distance away, police said.
The UC Davis Police Department said one suspect, identified as 19-year-old Daniel Chavez of Soledad, was arrested by police early Sunday morning after attempting to flee on foot. A second suspect -- described as a Hispanic male in his mid 20s, about 5'8" tall, with a tattoo of '678' on his neck -- escaped capture.
The two men were apparently asked to leave a party at the NAK house on the UC Davis campus just after 2:00 a.m., and when they walked outside, they robbed four people at gunpoint, according to Lt. Michael Carmichael.
"The suspects then went back into the house and were able to get a set of car keys," Carmichael said.
When police arrived, the suspects tried to drive away in the stolen car but quickly crashed into the wall of a day care center. One of the suspects tossed the loaded gun into the day care center playground, but police recovered the weapon.
Chavez was arrested at the scene and the other suspect eluded officers on foot. Chavez is facing charges of conspiracy and committing a felony while on bail.
Anyone with information on the other suspect is asked to contact the UC Davis Police Department at (530) 752-1230.
