Guide to the Sacramento Arts Festival

By Michelle Ventress

The fourteenth annual Sacramento Arts Festival will be held November 4 - 6 at the Sacramento Convention Center. Festival goers will be able to do a little early holiday shopping and browse the wares created by more than 225 artists and craftspeople. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and children under 12 are free. The Sacramento Arts Festival is open on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The artists are local and the art is completely original. The Sacramento Arts Festival is a fantastic way to support the local art community while adding to your private collection.

The Art
The festival promises everything from watercolor paintings to tables made out of ceramic tile. There will be 25 ceramic artists, 18 woodworkers, 42 painters, 12 sculptors, and 120 other artists and craftspeople with their own original work. Perhaps the best part of the festival is the opportunity to interact with the artists and even watch demonstrations. The Schools Gallery showcases artwork from local elementary, middle and high schools.

The Food and Entertainment
Perusing aisles of spectacular art for hours can make a body hungry. Luckily, there will be plenty of food choices nestled along Restaurant Row including Greek and Indian options. While you're kicking back with a gyro, take in the smooth sounds flowing from the main stage. Performers will include the GG Amos Blues Band, jazz soloist Dirk K, and the Kurt Ribak Jazz Quartet among others.

Getting There
The Sacramento Arts Festival is being held at the Sacramento Convention Center with the entrance at 14th and J Streets. Street parking is available surrounding the Convention Center and the city-run Memorial Garage is located at 14th and H Streets. Private lots are available within walking distance of the Convention Center and bike racks are located near 13th and J and at the box office at 1301 L Street.

Group Rates and Coupons
The tickets for the Sacramento Arts Festival allow entry to view and purchase some pretty magnificent art, but you can still get a coupon from the festival website to take a dollar off the admission price. If you're planning to attend in a group of 20 or more, you can purchase tickets for only $5 per person. A trip to the Sacramento Arts Festival might just be the perfect day trip for your church, school or social group. More information can be found on the Sacramento Arts Festival website.
