Great White Shark Spotted At Stinson Beach
STINSON BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Park officials are limiting water access off Stinson Beach after a great white shark was spotted in the area.
The Marin Independent-Journal reported that a Coast Guard helicopter saw the animal Sunday afternoon about 200 to 300 yards off the northern part of the beach. Officials say the shark appears to be between 8 and 10 feet long.
National Park Service lifeguards are still allowing swimmers to wade into the water there, but deeper waters will be off limits through Thursday.
The offshore area extending from Bodega Bay down to Big Sur is known as the "Red Triangle" for its high number of great white shark sightings. The waters draw them because of the rich supply of food, including sea lions, elephant seals and whale carcasses.
