Gov. Brown Signs Bill Into Law Allowing Wine And Cider Sampling At Farmers' Markets
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill into law Tuesday allowing for limited wine and cider tasting at certified farmers' markets.
The law, which had been known as AB 2488, allows wine and cider growers who grow 100 percent of the fruit that is used in their products to give tastings to potential customers.
In June, Assemblymember Marc B. Levine (D–San Rafael) issued this statement in support of the bill: "The farmers' market shopping experience involves tasting the product. AB 2488 simply allows tastings at certified farmers' markets where winemakers are already allowed to sell their products. This bill is a common sense solution for farmers' markets, wineries and cider makers."
The tastings are subject to a number of restrictions, including that samples cannot exceed 3 ounces per adult customer and only one winery on any given day could offer tastes.
Markets will only be allowed to offer samples in a corded-off area.
