Gourmet Truck Taking Bite Out Of Taco Territory
LODI (CBS13) — When David Seed lost his job as a plumber, he wasted no time finding a way to cash in on a growing trend: gourmet food trucks.
"We went out and brought and renovated this trailer and started cooking the food we loved eating at home," he said.
The bright green food truck on Lodi Avenue features tasty bites like crab cake sandwiches and fries.
Seed is dishing out gourmet sandwiches in a small city known for its taco trucks.
"There's a taco truck on ever corner pretty much," Lodi resident Zach Flores said. "This totally different."
There are almost two dozen spots you can walk up and grab a taco, but now only one truck to order a gourmet black bean burger on the go.
"I don't even go to the taco trucks but because it's sandwiches and they have a black bean burger, that's what brought me here," customer Kathy King said on Tuesday.
Business is booming for the new kid on the block. Since the truck was featured in the local paper, sales quadrupled in a matter of days.
"We ran out of food four different times where we had to stop and restock," Seed said.
Seed opened the business just a few weeks ago and is making about 100 sandwiches a day. Not bad for a gourmet truck in taco territory.
