UPDATE: High School Goat Dies After Gruesome Attack

OLIVEHURST (CBS13) -- One of the goats that was attacked at Lindhurst High School in Yuba County has died as a result of its injuries, CBS13 learned Wednesday.

Brownie was found by two students Saturday with both of its ears cut off. It died Tuesday night. The 4-year-old was reportedly pregnant.

Two students, Shelby Kinnard and Jenny Clark, made the gruesome discovery of Brownie's injuries Saturday morning. Teeth wounds were also visible all across the goat's legs and body.

Investigators are looking for leads on who may be responsible for mutilating two goats at the high school within a week.

Lindhurst High School officials found a goat, named Angel, badly wounded in an outdoor pen early last week, a portion of the animal's nose ripped apart so badly that the goat can barely breathe.

Agriculture teacher Jennifer Burden said dogs may have gotten in through a fence in the outdoor pen, but the remaining goats had been moved into locked cages by Friday.

Investigators said the cages had been secured with a drop-down lock and twine, but the twine had been cut.

"Somebody had to have helped. They're either blooding their dogs for fighting or they're heartless," Shelby said.

The students, who are responsible for raising the goats, said they're afraid the injuries could cause the breeding nannie goats to lose their kids, leading to a huge loss for the agricultural program. One kid goat can bring in as much as $700.

School officials said they should know if the attacks will cause the goats to miscarry within a month.

The five goats have been moved to what officials hope is a more secure building.
