Glen Campbell Documentary Showing In Sacramento
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A film chronicling the fading life of singer Glen Campbell will be featured at a local theater.
The country music and pop culture icon is struggling with Alzheimer's disease.
Ashley and Shannon Campbell sing about their love for their father and his decades long love affair with music.
Campbell, a pop culture icon from the 1960s and 70s was diagnosed years ago with the disease that slowly evaporates memory. He struggles performing now that Alzheimer's has taken its toll.
"He's in the late stages so he has trouble understanding what's going on," Ashley said.
"It's been a lot of pressure on the family and it's been pretty difficult, of course," Shannon said.
Several years ago, before Campbell forgot all of his songs, the family wanted to make short documentary chronicling his body of work. A five-week concert tour called I'll Be Me wasn't enough for his fans.
"We thought it was going to be five and a half weeks and it turned out to be two and half years," said producer and director James Keach.
He says the documentary's purpose is to bring awareness to the illness that affects more than 5 million Americans.
Ashley and Shannon believe their dad's story connects with caregivers living in the shadows by shining a brighter light on such a dark disease.
It helps people and encourages people and caretakers and anyone struggling with this that they're not alone. and that their story is being told as well," Shannon said.
The movie will be featured at the Crest Theater in Sacramento
Two songs from the soundtrack have been nominated for a Grammy. The awards are at 7 p.m. Sunday on CBS13.
