Girl Feared She'd Be Third Victim In Rancho Cordova Shooting
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) - An 11-year-old girl caught in the middle of a double murder in Rancho Cordova said she "thought I was going to die" Tuesday night.
The girl spoke with CBS13's Ron Jones a day after the fatal shooting at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of West La Loma Drive about 8:30 p.m.
A memorial has been left for the victims, Sandra Foster, 50, and a man in his 60s named Jim whose full identity has not yet been released by the coroner's office.
According to family members, Sandra was a caregiver and Jim was her patient. What's shocking about this story is the 11-year-old tells CBS13 she was behind this door when the bullets started to fly.
"I don't know if they're going to come after me," she said. "It was scary."
Investigators say the pre-teen walked into the home Tuesday night and asked to use her neighbor's phone. All seemed fine until "this one guy opened the door with a gun and a few seconds later another guy came in," she said.
They pushed her against the wall, rushed past her, yelling and looking for their victims.
She couldn't see their faces.
"They just had on masks and stuff," she said. "They had on masks, like bandanas."
She panicked.
"After that I ran in the room and hid in the closet and I heard two gunshots fire," she said.
She heard a blood-curdling scream.
"Sandra screamed and Jim is elderly and he could barely move," she said. "He didn't say nothing. He didn't have time."
The gunmen ran, and moments later, so did she.
Sandra's sister visited the crime scene Wednesday looking for answers.
"What was the motive behind this?" she asked. "Why would they come in and kill them like that?"
Detectives haven't identified a motive and no arrests have been made.
The young girl and her mom are now concerned they could be targeted.
"I feel like I don't want to sleep and I'm scared to go to the bathroom alone and I don't want anything to happen to my family," she said.
"She's afraid they're going to get her when she walks to school, they're going to kill her," her mom said.
