Giants Place RHP Gaudin On DL, Release OF Francoeur
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) The San Francisco Giants have placed right-hander Chad Gaudin on the 15-day disabled list with carpal tunnel syndrome and designated outfielder Jeff Francoeur for assignment.
San Francisco recalled lefty Mike Kickham and right-hander Jean Machi from Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday to replace Gaudin and Francoeur on the 25-man roster.
Barry Zito, who has not started since July 30, will replace Gaudin in the rotation and start Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox. Zito is 4-8 with a 5.34 ERA this season.
Gaudin is 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA.
Francoeur batted .194 with no homers and four RBIs in 22 games with the Giants.
