Giant Redwood Cross Stolen From Antelope Family's Yard
ANTELOPE (CBS13) — A symbol of an Antelope family's Christian faith was stolen from their yard, and they're asking police and the public for help in getting it back.
Cheryl Flores and her husband weren't subtle with their yard decor. A large, redwood cross that was as tall as them graced their yard.
Now they're stricken with grief that it's gone.
"That cross was a symbol. It wasn't just a cross," she said.
It had been up for a year at their Walerga road home until it was stolen on Thursday.
Flores says the cross was a focal point of their faith, their patriotism and a reminder to pray for loved ones.
"We just lost a friend of ours to the flu, and it was up for her, too," she said.
Thursday also happened to be the anniversary of Cheryl's dad's death.
"It hurts that somebody could actually do something like that," she said.
They say neighbors appreciated it, too. They can't imagine who would take it or why, but they just want it back, no questions asked.
"These poor people don't know what they did," she said.
They say they may get another, but the cost and effort that went into fixing it was substantial.
In the meantime, Flores has filed a police report on the theft.
