Georgia Man Struck, Killed While Walking On Sacramento Freeway
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A Georgia man was killed as he tried to cross the Capital City Freeway south of Elk Camino Avenue in Sacramento overnight, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 37-year-old from East Point, Ga., was crossing the northbound lanes at 12:14 a.m. when he was hit by Mehdi Alami, 28, of Antelope.
Alami was driving a 2003 Mercedes in the No. 4 lane when the front of his vehicle hit the man.
The man was propelled into traffic and subsequently hit by four more vehicles, the CHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three lanes of the freeway were closed for about three hours for investigation and cleanup. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs was a contributing factor in this collision pending toxicology results on the pedestrian, the CHP said.
